Even when the temps spike at 106*F I’m still happy to be home, especially when a visit finds me on the set of Great Day San Antonio! Today I dished out tips on ways to boost your metabolism through the foods you eat. Oh yes, it’s true! Check out these studies:
ENERGIZING
- The Study: Studies have shown that foods containing caffeine and natural antioxidant, catechin increase 24-hour energy expenditure and fax oxidation.
- The Fuel: Green Tea, Dark Chocolate, Berries
WARMING
- The Study: Studies have shown that a spicy meal or snack, rich in the active component capsacin, can provide a temporary rise in metabolism of about 8% greater than a person’s typical metabolic rate. This temporary boost helps to suppress your desire to eat.
- The Fuel: Jalapeno, Cayenne and Chili Peppers
HEARTY
- The Study: High fiber foods keep your insulin levels steady and move excess calories through your system quicker which helps your body prevent fat storage.
- The Fuel: Fruits, Vegetables, Brown Rice, Whole Grains
CHEWY
- The Study: Omega-3 fatty acids lower levels of the hormone leptin helping to control energy intake/expenditure and speed up your metabolism.
- The Fuel: Salmon, Tuna, Sunflower Seeds

Check out the episode to see how I weaved these foods into a revitalizing brown rice recipe, plus snack suggestions to be sure you eat these foods daily!
Here was a sweet email I received from co-host, Eileen Teves:
THAT SALAD
… was SOOOO GOOOD!!!!
I’m going to make it! You’ve inspired me!
By the way, it’s soooo good, I finished all of it! HAHAH! Only two other people got a chance to try it. Oh well. THANK you so much for your expertise!

I guess we could consider that a positive testimonial! Thanks, Eileen! I always have a blast hanging with the entire crew of Great Day SA!
Thanks also to KIND Snacks for sponsoring this morning’s segment! It’s great to work with companies I love and use regularly (as I stuff 2 KIND bars into my purse for my flight home tonight).
Give the recipe a whirl and let me know what you think!!
